Vermont State Police say one man was killed and another man critically injured in a shooting early Monday morning in Waterbury.

Police did not release the names of those involved in the incident, pending notification of their relatives and further investigation, state police said in a press release Monday morning.

“Preliminary investigation by detectives indicates this shooting was an isolated, targeted event,” police said in the press release. “No one is currently in custody.”

Police said they were called around 12:45 a.m. Monday by a person reporting a shooting at a home in Kneeland Flats Trailer Park in Waterbury.

Officers arriving at the scene found the two victims, and the man with critical injuries was taken by ambulance to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington for treatment, according to the release.

Police said the investigation was in its “initial phase,” involving detectives and the crime scene processing unit.

The body of the man who was killed was expected to be brought later Monday to the Vermont Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death, as well as to confirm the person’s identity, police said in the release.

No additional information was immediately available.
