The appointment of a Montgomery County lawmaker to fill a vacancy in the Senate has reshuffled some committee assignments in the House of Delegates.

Former Del. Sara Love (D-Montgomery) was sworn into the Senate last month to fill a vacancy created by the departure of Ariana Kelly.

House Speaker Adrienne Jones on Monday announced changes in House leadership to fill the void created by Love’s move to the Senate.

Del. Robbyn Lewis (D-Baltimore City), an advocate for public transportation, will move from the House Health and Government Operations Committee to the Environment and Transportation Committee. She will also chair the committee’s Land Use and Ethics subcommittee.

Del. Vaughn Stewart (D-Montgomery), current chair of the House Environment and Transportation subcommittee on Land Use and Ethics, moves to take over as the new chair of the panel’s Motor Vehicle and Transportation Subcommittee.

Finally, Del. Sheila Ruth (D-Baltimore County) will serve on the Chesapeake Bay Commission. She currently serves on the House Environment and Transportation Committee.

Meanwhile, the District 16 Democratic Central Committee is expected Tuesday to interview candidates to fill the House seat vacated by Love. A final decision is expected when the panel meets on July 11.
