QUECHEE — Hartford police have identified the victim of a Jan. 19 shooting in Quechee as a 21-year-old man from Gardner, Mass.

Jonathan Carpenter was found with “an apparent gunshot wound to the head” when the Hartford police and fire departments responded to reports of a shooting in the 200 Block of Fairbanks Turn at about 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, police have said.

Carpenter died after being transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

Police Chief Greg Sheldon identified Carpenter in a Thursday morning email. WCAX had previously reported his identity.

Other than to provide Carpenter’s name and hometown, Sheldon offered no new details on Thursday morning. Police had previously released his age.

The events leading up to the shooting are unclear as police have released few details about the investigation.

Autopsy results conducted by the New Hampshire Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Concord were “currently undetermined, pending further investigation,” police said in a news release last week.

Police also have indicated that “all parties involved were known to one another, and the incident is believed to be isolated,” according to the first news release issued following the shooting.
