Gov. Phil Scott has appointed Steven Brown Jr. to serve as the top prosecutor in Windham County, the governor’s office announced in a press release Friday.
Brown worked in the office as a deputy state’s attorney for 17 years before becoming interim state’s attorney when Tracy Shriver retired in July.
Prior to working in the state’s attorney’s office, Brown spent two years as an associate at Kramer Law Offices in Brattleboro.
The governor on Friday also announced his appointment of William Clements as chair of the Vermont Criminal Justice Council. The panel supports municipalities, counties and the state with rules and policies regarding certification and training for law enforcement offices.
Clements, according to the release, has served since 2021 as a professor of criminal justice at Norwich University’s School of Criminology and Criminal Justice.
In addition, the release stated, Scott has appointed Christopher Brickell as the council’s executive director.
Brickell had been the deputy director of the council since 2021, and served as chair of the Vermont Criminal Justice Training Council from 2016 to 2020.
