The 341st Missile Wing operates at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls.

One Airman is dead and five injured after a vehicle accident on Malmstrom Air Force Base on Saturday, according to a news release from Malmstrom.

The news release said three Airmen were hurt in the accident and two additional first-responder Airmen were hurt while trying to help at the scene; all five were transported to medical facilities.

Malmstrom said no information would be released about the deceased until family had been notified.

The cause of the accident is under investigation, Malmstrom said in the Sunday news release.

Malmstrom did not release a cause of death or state whether the Airmen were on duty or identify the circumstances involved in the accident.

Malmstrom is headquarters to the 341st Missile Wing made up of more than 3,300 active duty soldiers and 600 civilians. It’s one of three U.S. Air Force bases that oversees Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles.

A public affairs officer declined to provide additional information Monday morning but said Malmstrom would likely have more details later in the afternoon.

“The safety and well-being of all of our Airmen is our priority and we are providing support and assistance to those impacted by this tragic event,” Malmstrom said in the news release.

Col. Dan Voorhies, 341st Missile Wing commander, said Malmstrom needs time to grieve and heal.

“Our focus right now is to make sure that all of our Team Malmstrom have the support they need to make it through this difficult time,” Voorhies said in a statement.
