U.S. Rep. Kat Cammack, who has represented 12 counties in North Central Florida since 2020, announced Monday that she is a candidate for chair of the House Republican Conference, the fourth highest position in House GOP leadership.
“With the mandate the American people gave President Trump and my fellow Republicans on Tuesday, we need to deliver results now more than ever,” Cammack wrote on X on Monday. “We need to be one team, one mission. I’m all in to be our next House Conference Chair and I look forward to executing on the America First agenda we have been sent to Washington for.”
The position became available on Monday after the sitting chair, New York Rep. Elise Stefanik, was tapped by president-elect Donald Trump to serve as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
Cammack is one of three announced candidates for the position, which will be decided on Wednesday. The others are Michigan U.S. Rep. Lisa McClain and Indiana U.S. Rep. Erin Houchin, according to Politico. Other potential candidates rumored to be interested in the position include Southwest Florida U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds.
Before being elected to serve as the representative in Florida’s 3rd Congressional District, Cammack served for nearly a decade as deputy chief of staff for U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho, who served as the representative in the district from 2012 to 2020.
In terms of hierarchy in House Republican leadership, chair of the Republican Conference is the fourth most powerful, following Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, Majority Leader Steve Scalise, and Majority Whip Tom Emmer.
