Rep. Lisa McClain (R-Bruce Twp.) at the Mackinac Policy Conference, May 30, 2024 | Anna Liz Nichols
U.S. Rep. Lisa McClain (R-Bruce Twp.) has won election by her peers to be the Republican House conference chair, the fourth high-ranking position for U.S. House Republicans, who will retain control of that chamber for the next two years.
“I am honored to be chosen by my colleagues to serve as the Republican Conference Chairwoman and I thank my constituents in MI-09 for their continued support,” McClain posted to social media. “I am excited to lead our unified team alongside President Trump and @SpeakerJohnson to pass the America First agenda.”
The position opened up after the current chair, New York U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik, was chosen by President-elect Donald Trump to serve as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
McClain was a regular presence at Trump rallies across the state this cycle. She easily beat out Florida U.S. Rep. Kat Cammack for the spot, 146-67. Politico reported one GOP member voted for U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.).
McClain was backed by Michigan Republican Party Chair Pete Hoekstra, who called McClain a “fierce leader” who is up to the task of uniting Republicans to accomplish their goals.
