The maximum weekly unemployment benefit in Maine is going up beginning June 1, the Department of Labor announced Monday.

The highest weekly benefit a person can receive through the state’s unemployment program between June 1 and May 31, 2025, will be $595, up from $573, the department said.

Maine’s unemployment rate as of April was 3.1%.

The increase in the maximum unemployment benefit is due to the average weekly wage in Maine increasing 3.7% from $1,103.71 to $1,144.67. Maximum unemployment benefits are set as a percentage of the average weekly wage.

Those filing an unemployment claim on June 1 or after will see a weekly benefit somewhere between $104 and $595, depending on their situation. People who have already filed claims won’t see any difference, as the change only applies to those seeking coverage on or after June 1, the department said.
