Julie Davis died at home in Boise, Idaho, on February 14, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was 67, her vibrant life cut short by lung cancer.
Julie savored life and found beauty in the ordinary. She loved salted butter spread over fresh bread, delicate perfumes, winter walks with her airedale terrier, listening to opera, delighting in dance, and slipping into bed with flannel sheets.
Magnetic, warm, and full of laughter, Julie made connections everywhere she went. She remembered the details of what was important to people: their children, an ill parent, a professional challenge. Julie was a devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother, and beloved confidant to countless people. She felt things deeply, and with that emotion, turned towards the hard things in life to build strong, trusting relationships. She fostered connection through her work, community, and faith.
Julie was born in Cortland, NY, the first child to Patricia Harrington Davis and Gerald Edward Davis. Julie was a precocious child, eager to connect and ask questions, and the best big sister to Robin and Scott. She excelled academically, earning a B.A. in Russian Studies at the University of Vermont and a J.D. in law at the University of Oregon where she was student body president.
She had a fulfilling work life including roles at the office of legal counsel for Governor Dukakis, the staff of Seattle City Council Member Tom Weeks, and the School of Theology and Ministry at Seattle University. The last seventeen years of her career she managed the family office of Paul and Debbi Brainerd. Her volunteer work included leadership roles at Seattle’s University Congregational Church, Whim W’him dance company, and the Boise Farmers’ Market.
She is predeceased by her mother, Patricia H. Zlotucha. Survived by her husband, Daniel Malarkey, daughter, Margot Molloy Daniel), son, Burgess Malarkey (Ksenia), grandchildren, Lucille and Emory, father, Jerry Davis (Beverly Armstrong), step-father Michael Zlotucha, sister, Robin Rettew (John), brother, Scott Davis (Melinda Leyden), step-sister Andrea Zlotucha Kozub (Chris), step-brother Ben Zlotucha (Angie), uncle, Gary Harrington (Joanne), and numerous nieces and nephews.
