Thousands of students will walk across stages in Ames, Cedar Falls and Iowa City this weekend to commemorate the accomplishment of earning a degree.
The University of Iowa, University of Northern Iowa and Iowa State University have recorded more than 4,000 degree applicants seeking to graduate at the end of the semester.
University of Iowa
Graduation ceremonies at the UI for different colleges and degree levels are spread out between Dec.19 and Dec. 22, with details online about specific times and whether livestreaming will be available.
A total of 1,707 undergraduate, graduate and professional students are slated to graduate this fall, according to a news release, from 56 Iowa counties, 35 states and 43 countries. Of the 1,163 undergraduate degree applicants, almost one-quarter identify as first-generation college students.

The average cumulative grade-point average of undergraduate degree applicants is 3.20, and 11% of the group will graduate with multiple majors.
Among the most popular areas of study for undergraduate degree applicants are economics, nursing, English and creative writing, finance and psychology.
University of Northern Iowa
UNI will celebrate commencement for its more than 650 undergraduate and graduate degree applicants at 10 a.m. Dec. 21 in the McLeod Center, according to a news release, with a livestream available online.
Almost one-third of graduates identify as first-generation college students, and included in the graduating class are students from 80 Iowa counties, 14 states and nine countries.
The average cumulative grade-point average of the 570 undergraduate degree applicants is 3.39, and almost 14% will graduate with multiple majors.
UNI’s College of Humanities, Arts & Sciences will see the most graduates with 210 applicants, followed by the College of Education with 147 and the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences at 146.
Iowa State University
ISU will hold its commencement ceremony for graduate degree applicants at 7 p.m. Dec. 20 and for undergraduate degree applicants at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 21, according to a news release, with additional receptions for specific colleges taking place throughout the two days. Links to livestreams for the celebrations can be found online.
Just over 1,400 undergraduate students are expected to earn their degrees this semester, according to a news release, as well as 245 master’s students and 110 doctoral students. In total, the college plans to award 1,763 students their diplomas.
