With more than 500,000 ballots counted as of Wednesday morning, Republican Bowen Greenwood has a strong 19-point lead over Democrat Erin Farris-Olsen in the race for Clerk of the Montana Supreme Court.
Greenwood has served in the position since 2018 when he won office with 51% of the vote. As of 9 a.m., Greenwood had tallied 298,624 votes to Farris-Olsen’s 199,919.
The position, though partisan, is mostly an administrative role; the clerk checks paperwork for compliance with court rules and acts as the Supreme Court’s custodian of records.
Prior to his work as clerk, Greenwood was was the executive director of the Montana Republican Party.
Farris-Olsen campaigned on protecting judicial integrity and previously clerked for the Supreme Court and worked for the office of the state court administrator.
