Just days after U.S. Rep. Dan Kildeeās congressional tenure came to an end, Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer appointed him to chair the Michigan Natural Resources Commission.
Kildee, a Flint Democrat, was first elected to the U.S. House in 2012, succeeding his uncle, former U.S. Rep. Dale Kildee. Dan Kildee announced in 2023 he was retiring after a bout with cancer and was succeeded by now-U.S. Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet (D-Bay City).
The Michigan Natural Resources Commission (NRC) has exclusive authority to regulate the taking of game and sportfish andĀ is authorized toĀ designateĀ game species and authorize the establishment of the first open season for animals through the issuance of orders.
Kildee is the president and chief executive officer of the Community Foundation of Greater Flint. He holds a Bachelor of Science in administration with a concentration in community development from Central Michigan University.
He succeeds Thomas Baird, whose term has expired. Kildee is appointed to the commission as a Democrat for a term commencing Friday and expiring Dec. 31, 2028. His chair term also began that day and expires at the pleasure of the governor.
This appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate, which is controlled by Democrats.
