Emilia Otte has been named The Connecticut Mirror’s next justice reporter.
In her role, she will cover the justice system in Connecticut, including law enforcement, immigration, courts, incarceration and juvenile justice.
Otte was previously a reporter and deputy editor at CT Examiner, where she covered a range of statewide and local issues — among them education, public health and children’s issues.
In 2021 she won the “Rookie of the Year” award from the New England Newspaper and Press Association.
“Emilia Otte’s experience writing about state policy across a range of subjects, including juvenile justice and public health, over the last four years positions her to jump right into her new beat covering justice issues for CT Mirror,” said CT Mirror Executive Editor Elizabeth Hamilton. “Emilia’s innate curiosity and empathy, combined with a rigorous intellect, will be huge assets as she tackles some of the most important issues of this time, such as the impact of immigration enforcement in Connecticut communities. We are delighted to welcome her to the staff.”
A former freelance reporter, Otte’s work has been published in Foreign Policy magazine and Business Insider, among other publications.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Bryn Mawr College and a master’s degree in journalism from New York University. She speaks multiple languages, including Spanish.
Her first day at CT Mirror is Monday.
