The new political action committee of former U.S. Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn doled out its first 10 endorsements on Wednesday, sending along $2,500 to each of the Democratic candidates for Senate on the list.

Dunn, who became a national political figure after battling protesters at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, has converted the campaign committee for his unsuccessful congressional bid this spring in Maryland’s 3rd District into a PAC known as Dunn’s Democracy Defenders. In a statement, Dunn described the Senate, which Democrats currently control by one seat, as the last line of defense against Republican extremists.

“Our democracy is at a crossroads,” Dunn said. “We must hold the U.S. Senate for the Democrats to ensure that our democratic institutions remain strong and resilient against the threats posed by Trump and MAGA insurrectionists. This is not just about winning elections; it’s about preserving the very fabric of our democracy.”

Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, the Democratic nominee for Senate in Maryland, is one of the 10 recipients of the PAC’s largesse. She’s competing for an open seat against former Gov. Larry Hogan (R).

The PAC has also endorsed five Senate incumbents who are in tight races: Jon Tester of Montana, Sherrod Brown of Ohio, Jacky Rosen of Nevada, Bob Casey of Pennsylvania and Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin.

The PAC also sent donations to U.S. Rep. Colin Allred (D-Texas), who is challenging Sen. Ted Cruz (R); Lucas Kunze, a Marine Corps veteran who is challenging Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.); U.S. Rep. Ruben Gallego (D), who is running for an open Senate seat in Arizona; and Rep. Adam Schiff (D), who is running for an open Senate seat in California.

“Each of these candidates has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to upholding the values that make our country great, and I am proud to stand with them in this critical fight,” Dunn said. He told Maryland Matters earlier this week that the PAC expects to make endorsements in U.S. House races soon.
