The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating a sewage spill in southern Des Moines near a Starbucks.
The spill was observed entering a storm sewer in the parking lot of the Starbucks at SE 14th Street and East Diehl Avenue. According to a Tuesday press release from DNR, the storm sewer drains into Yeader Creek.
Downstream users of the creek are advised to avoid entering the water, though the department said no dead fish have been observed.

DNR was notified of the spill by the City of Des Moines, and according to the press release, local authorities and Allied Systems of Des Moines responded to the spill to repair and clean the site.
The sewage overflowed from a sanitary sewer, an underground system carrying sewer from residences and businesses to treatment facilities, located near the Starbucks.
DNR said it will follow up with the city for further assessment on the spill.
