The Democratic caucus voted 152-59 for Dingell over freshman U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas), who had announced her intent to seek the position last week.

We’re listening to the people we represent to understand their issues, priorities, and concerns, and make sure they know we are fighting to deliver real solutions for them,” Dingell posted to social media after the vote.

Dingell, who had been co-chair of the DPCC since 2018, became chair in 2023. She thanked her incoming co-chairs: U.S. Reps. Lori Trahan (D-Mass.), Lauren Underwood (D-Ill.), and Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.), as well as Crockett “for all her contributions to our Caucus and for a good race. She is a great colleague and a talented messenger, and we are lucky to have her.”

Crockett spoke at the Michigan Democratic Party’s August convention in Lansing.

Meanwhile, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), Minority Whip Katherine M. Clark (D-Mass.), and Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.) were all reelected to their leadership positions after running unopposed.

Dingell’s win means Michigan will have representation in House leadership on both sides of the aisle, after the selection last week of U.S. Rep. Lisa McClain (R-Bruce Twp.) as chair of the House Republican Conference, the fourth-highest position in House GOP leadership.
