I am writing in response to “CT enviros plan to push climate bill during special session” published on June 5 in The Connecticut Mirror.
While I appreciate the article’s coverage of the climate bill’s perspectives, I believe this piece overlooks a valuable opportunity to discuss the bill’s potential benefits. The commentary on the bill’s design is limited and does not articulate how regulated greenhouse gas emissions would affect Connecticut residents.
House Bill 5004 would curb fossil fuel emissions, lending a powerful hand in the fight against climate change and mitigating air pollution. In addition, the climate bill would stimulate “investment in renewable energy and green economy startup businesses,” as outlined on the Connecticut General Assembly website.
Considering that the decision to include the climate bill in the special session remains undecided, it is imperative to discuss the importance of its inclusion and how it will benefit Connecticut.
I attended college in Connecticut where I learned about the urgency in addressing climate change. Recognizing the benefits of including the climate bill in the upcoming special session provides additional motivation for stakeholders to urge Gov. Ned Lamont to take action now.
