Colorado Lt. Gov. Dianne Primavera was admitted to the hospital Wednesday night due to an unspecified infection, according to a news release from the governor’s office.

“Lt. Governor Primavera is one of the strongest and toughest people I know and we are glad she is taking extra caution and getting the care she deserves so she can return to her role as the best Lt. Governor in the country as soon as possible,” Colorado Gov. Jared Polis said in a statement. “I was not surprised when I learned that she plans to continue working today.”

Primavera, a Democrat, has been lieutenant governor since 2019, leading state programs including the Office of Saving People Money on Health Care, the Office of eHealth Innovation and the Colorado Disability Funding Committee and Disability Policy. She previously served in the Colorado House of Representatives.

The governor’s office said it would provide additional information as it became available.
