Bruce attended West Berlin Elementary School and graduated from Northfield High School in 1963. Following his graduation, he served honorably in the U.S. Army for three years. Upon completing his military service, Bruce began working at a paper mill in New Hampshire before returning to Vermont to embark on a long career as a machine operator with Rouleau Granite Company. After retiring from that position in 2004, he continued to stay active by working as a maintenance person for 802 Toyota until his retirement in 2014.

On May 27, 1993, Bruce married Linda L. Croteau in Northfield, Vermont. The couple made their home in Northfield for many years before relocating to Barre Town in 2021.

Bruce found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved mowing his lawn and tending to his flower beds, taking pride in maintaining a beautiful outdoor space. For many years, he was an active member of the Green Mountain Dart League and later discovered a creative side through crafting Christmas ornaments and diamond art projects with his wife during the winter months. A lifelong Boston Red Sox fan, Bruce also cherished time spent with family and friends.

He is survived by six children: Keven Matheson (Ellen) of West Berlin, Vermont; Jacqueline Matheson of Church Hill, Tennessee; Kathy Drury (Douglas) of Northfield, Vermont; Leann Morrissette (John) of Alburgh, Vermont; Todd Croteau(Martha Lange) of Plainfield, Vermont; and Kevin Croteau (Stephanie) of Port Charlotte, Florida. He also leaves behind three brothers: Stanley Matheson (Kay) of Northfield Falls, Vermont; Frederick Matheson (Karen) of Northfield, Vermont; and Keith Matheson (Brenda) of Maryland; as well as 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Bruce was predeceased by a sister, Marylin Matheson; two brothers, Daniel Matheson Jr. and James Matheson; a son, Thomas Croteau; and a great-grandson, Konner Drury.
