Letters to the editor.

Dear Editor,

I am in favor of consolidating to five school districts in the state. We, like many other states, are top-heavy with administrative personnel; we need to streamline that layer of the education process to reallocate those personnel costs to the students.

I wish you good luck in making this happen. Education is close to guns in this country, with local school boards, responsible for perhaps 500-700 students, employing superintendents, principals, finance directors, special ed directors … every district jealously guarding its little bit of turf. In the Valley, at least we have a unified school district. That’s a start.

We need to consolidate our deployment of public education to the taxpayers. Funding should be focused on teachers teaching students. And remember, the teachers and their unions are not the customers. The customers are the kids.
