Bull Shoals and Fayetteville elected new mayors, while the Jonesboro incumbent was successful in his re-election bid during Tuesday’s runoff elections.

These three races were among more than two dozen decided by Arkansans in 17 counties during the final election of the year. Runoff elections in county and municipal races occur when there are more than two candidates and no candidate receives a majority of the votes cast, according to state law.

There are no runoff elections for state or federal offices in Arkansas.

William “Bill” Stahlman Jr. earned 283 votes to unseat Bull Shoals Mayor Carol Duss who received 250 votes, according to complete but unofficial results. Duss was appointed to the position following former Mayor Michael Savu’s resignation earlier this year, according to the Mountain Home Observer.

Molly Rawn was elected the new mayor of Fayetteville after receiving 5,411 votes Tuesday night. Lioneld Jordan, who has served as mayor for 16 years, received 5,169 votes, according to complete but unofficial results.

Meanwhile, Harold Copenhaver, who was first elected in 2020, earned a second term as Jonesboro’s mayor with 5,264 votes. His opponent, LJ Bryant, received 3,446 votes, according to complete but unofficial results.

Dec. 18 is the deadline for the county board of election commissioners to certify election results to the Secretary of State and the county clerk, mayor of the municipality, or city clerk or recorder.
