It’s here: Election Day 2024. Virginia has 11 congressional districts, and all of them will elect representatives today. One of Virginia’s U.S. Senate seats is also on the ballot.
In addition, today Virginians will elect their local leaders statewide, and help select the next president of the United States.
There’s also a proposed amendment to Virginia’s constitution to weigh in on, and each voter will answer whether the real property tax exemption that is currently available to the surviving spouses of soldiers killed in action should also be available to the surviving spouses of soldiers who died in the line of duty.
What you need to know:
- Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 5. Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. You can still vote if you’re in line at closing time.
- Still need to register to vote? You can do it at your local polling place and vote right after, via provisional ballot. Find more details on same-day voter registration here.
- You’ll need to show an acceptable form of identification to vote at the polls. You can show your Virginia driver’s license, whether it’s expired or not. Other forms of ID will work too; find the full list here.
- There have been over 1,600 people purged from Virginia’s voter rolls in recent months, including some eligible voters. Think you might have been mistakenly purged? Here’s what to do.
- Representatives from the Department of Justice will be monitoring some Virginia polling places on Election Day, in Hanover, Henrico, Loudoun, and Prince William counties as well as the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park. They’ll be on the look out for possible voter rights violations.
- More than 2.29 million Virginians have already cast their ballots.
