An advocacy group is reminding absentee ballot voters who have not returned their ballots by mail to hand deliver their ballots by Monday or vote provisionally on Tuesday.

Kathy Jones, president of the League of Women Voters of Alabama, said that absentee ballots must be received by Tuesday at noon. If voters cannot hand deliver their absentee ballot on Monday before the close of business, they must go to their regular polling place on Tuesday and vote a provisional ballot.

“There are several thousand absentee ballots still caught up in the mail system, or perhaps held by the voter.  They need to be aware that time is running out on Monday.  But they still have an option,” Jones said in a text message.

Laney Rawls, a spokesperson for the Alabama Secretary of State, confirmed the deadlines.

Jones said that if a voter requested an absentee ballot, they would be labeled on the voter roll as a “voting absentee.”  If they have not received the absentee ballot or got it too late to return it, the voter can vote at their normal polling place on Tuesday.

They will be listed on the voter roll as having applied for an absentee ballot. The polling place will require them to vote with a provisional ballot. After Election Day, the provisional ballot will be counted once the Absentee Elections Manager confirms the voter did not cast an absentee ballot.
