Downtown Sheridan got a Halloween makeover this week as its Main Street sculptures donned costumes.
The Sheridan Public Arts Committee and SAGE Community Arts put on the town’s first-ever sculpture costume contest to raise funds and excitement for public art. Local businesses volunteered to adorn sculptures in Halloween costumes and passers-by could cast as many $1 votes for their favorites as they wanted.
Jill Benson, executive director of both organizations, told WyoFile that the event raised $189 for the sculpture acquisition fund. But the real treasure was the fun of watching kids in full costume for Saturday’s Monster Mash running up to the sculptures. “The community was engaging in a new way,” Benson said. “They thought art was fun in a new way, which was really cool!”
Local businesses were excited to participate, and even more so when they heard the prize: free snow removal all winter! Once Upon a Story bridal boutique claimed the inaugural victory with their unique portrayal of “Batman and Robin.”Â
