Deep-pocketed Maryland Democrats or elected officials who are interested in making the scene may have to find a way to be in two places at once on Wednesday evening — or even more.
That’s because the Maryland Democratic Party has scheduled a fundraiser in downtown Baltimore that evening around the same time the Democratic nominee for vice president, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, is scheduled to appear at a fundraiser in Potomac.
There are at least four other fundraisers for Democratic candidates or political causes also taking place that night, according to event invitations.
The state party fundraiser, which is being held at Orioles Park at Camden Yards, is being billed as a “special get-out-the-vote birthday bash” to honor Gov. Wes Moore (D), who turns 46 on Tuesday. DJ and local radio personality DJ Quicksilva will provide the music, and the invitation promises speeches “from special guests and leaders from across the state.”
Ticket prices start at $100 and go all the way up to $10,000, for the right to be recognized as an “event sponsor.”
In Potomac that same evening, Walz headlines an event at a private home in Potomac that is cosponsored by U.S. Rep. David Trone (D-6th) and his wife June Trone, and Peter Snell, a Northern Virginia real estate developer, and his wife Lindsay Snell.
Ticket prices for that fundraiser start at $1,000 and go all the way up to $100,000 for event sponsors. It’s being sponsored by the Harris Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee authorized by Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and Democratic parties in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Also on the docket Wednesday night: A fundraiser for Freedom in Reproduction – Maryland, the entity that is fighting to pass a ballot initiative that would enshrine abortion rights in the Maryland Constitution. That’s being sponsored by Del. Dana Jones (D-Anne Arundel); Karen Nelson, the president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Maryland; and Erin Bradley, Planned Parenthood’s vice president of public affairs and chair of Freedom in Reproduction – Maryland. It’s taking place at The Vineyards at Dodon in Davidsonville.
Three Democratic elected officials are also holding fundraisers for their own campaigns Wednesday evening: State Sen. Dawn Gile (D-Anne Arundel), Anne Arundel County Councilmember Pete Smith (D) and Baltimore City Councilmember John Bullock (D).
