West Virginia residents who want to vote in the general election have until the end of the day Tuesday to register or update their registration.

Oct. 15 is the deadline for registering to vote on Election Day on Nov. 5. People may register online at GoVoteWV.com with a driver’s license or a state-issued ID, according to the Secretary of State’s Office. They can also register in-person at the Division of Motor Vehicles or their county clerk’s office. Paper applications that are mailed to the county clerk’s office must be postmarked by Oct. 15.

During the 2020 general presidential election, 802,726 or 63.5% of West Virginia’s 1,269,219 registered voters showed up at the polls, according to the Secretary of State’s office. As of late last month, 1,201,724 West Virginia residents were registered to vote.

In-person early voting begins Oct. 23 and continues during normal working hours and on the last two Saturdays through Nov. 2. During early voting, people may cast their ballots at the county courthouse, an annex or a designated community voting location.

Voters must bring an approved form of identification such as a voter’s registration card, birth certificate, driver’s license or SNAP ID card.

A complete list of early voting locations and sample ballots for each county are available on the West Virginia Secretary of State’s website.

The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 5.
