Democratic gubernatorial candidate Steve Williams on Thursday challenged Republican opponent Patrick Morrisey to debate “the issues facing West Virginia voters.”
“West Virginians deserve a leader who isn’t afraid to answer tough questions,” Williams said in a news release.
Morrisey’s campaign did not respond to an email seeking comment.
Williams has been the mayor of Huntington for more than a decade and is a former member of the House of Delegates.
Patrick Morrisey, the state attorney general since 2013, is the heavy favorite to win the governor’s election. According to a recent West Virginia MetroNews poll of registered West Virginia voters, Morrisey leads Williams by 49% to 35% in the governor’s race.
Morrisey and Williams recently addressed state business leaders about their respective plans for the state during back to back speeches at the Chamber of Commerce’s annual Annual Meeting and Business Summit at The Greenbrier.
The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 5.
