Floodwaters approximately 100 feet wide raged across Bridge Street in Richmond between the historic Round Church and the bridge, while residents drove up one by one in the early afternoon to observe and take photos.
On the other side of the bridge, Volunteers Green was also completely overtaken by the Winooski River, town manager Josh Arneson said Thursday morning.
According to Arneson, six roads in the town had to be closed after Wednesday’s flash flooding. Three of the closures left some houses stranded, he said, and a road crew was working through the night and day to repair those roads.
The closures in Richmond stretched from the Park & Ride, where some cars were submerged almost to the windows, to Jonesville.
