Shortly after the timely release of the Michigan governor’s new book, “True Gretch,” which happened to coincide with a pivotal moment in Democratic politics that has included rampant speculation about Whitmer’s role in the future of her party, the newly minted author is set to hit the road next week on a book tour.

Whitmer will hold four events in Michigan as part of the tour, including a conversation with Jeff Daniels at the Purple Rose Theater in Chelsea on July 22, a conversation with former Gov. Jim Blanchard at Michigan State University on July 23 and an event in Traverse City with Bob Sutherland on July 31.

A graphic promoting the book tour also promises a “surprise Detroit event” will be announced at a later date.

Whitmer kicks off the tour Sunday in Seattle before also making stops in Santa Monica, San Francisco, Martha’s Vineyard and the nation’s capital.

Whitmer will be joined by comedian Samantha Bee on July 30 for the event at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

The book’s release is certain to add fuel to the speculation about whether Whitmer could be a potential replacement if President Joe Biden were to step aside amid questions about his age – calls she has repeatedly disavowed – or might become a candidate for the country’s highest office in 2028. But the book tour notably does not include stops in any key swing states, instead favoring areas with high densities of Democratic donors.

Whitmer spent the day Monday visiting local bookstores throughout Michigan to sign their copies of the book, which became available to purchase Tuesday.

Signed copies can be found at Schuler Books in Meridian Township, Literati Bookstore in Ann Arbor, The Book Beat in Oak Park and Source Booksellers in Detroit while supplies last.

Whitmer signed the books using a hot-pink Sharpie, complimenting an employee at Schuler Books on his pin that read “Wear pink, get sh-t done.”
