The LSU Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a three-year contract extension and a $25,000 raise for LSU System President William Tate.

Tate, who has led the system and the main campus for three years, will receive an annual salary of $750,000, an increase from $725,000.

The new contract will also offer him the opportunity to earn incentive pay, the board announced at the meeting but did not go into specifics. An LSU spokesperson has not yet shared what amounts Tate could earn for attaining the undisclosed goals.

The contract extension was approved after an approximately 45-minute executive session. When the board returned, there was very little public discussion, although newly appointed member John Carmouche raised concerns about the lack of penalties for not meeting the board’s expectations.

Carmouche said he became comfortable enough to vote for the contract after learning the board could terminate Tate’s contract early, with no cost to the system, if the board was dissatisfied with his performance.
