There’s nothing quite like a child’s joy at catching a fish, and there were a lot of smiles on display at Yesness Park in Casper earlier this month.

More than 148 kids cast fishing lines into the Yesness pond on June 1 to angle for bluegill, trout and bullheads — part of several kids fishing events to celebrate the state’s annual Free Fishing Day. Wyoming Game and Fish employees were on hand to offer pointers and encouragement. The agency also partnered with several local charities and businesses to host kids fishing day events in Lander and Riverton.
The Bighorn National Forest will host a Kids’ Fishing Day Saturday at the Bear Lodge pond near Burgess Junction. Fishing rods will be on loan for kids who don’t have their own.
